With almost 6 years in the construction industry, Alexis has gained unique and valuable experience from time spent supporting both field and office operations. Her entire career has been with Mortenson Construction starting as a field engineer conducting turbine inspections on the Arbor Hills Wind project near Des Moines, Iowa. This led to her gaining understanding of renewable energy projects while mastering her fear of heights by climbing 300-foot turbines almost daily.
From there Alexis moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where she spent most of her career as a quality engineer at the high-profile Meta Data Center Project. She was responsible for conducting quality walks and inspections with 3rd party inspectors and the owner. As the project began reaching the various phases of substantial completion, she assisted in managing the closeout submittal process, assembling the Meta prescribed turnover documents, and facilitated final owner trainings for the unique equipment installed on-site. Alexis shared much of this valuable industry experience with new interns as a mentor several times, nurturing talent in young college professionals while training them on Mortenson’s and Meta’s quality processes.
Alexis currently works in Mortenson’s new Salt Lake City office as an estimator learning about and assisting in the bid process for a handful of projects, including supporting estimating efforts for a federal job in California. She has been engaging with several trade partners (subcontractors, vendors, etc.) to help secure work and establish positive rapport with key trades and industry professionals in the Salt Lake market.
Alexis has been married for 5 years to her husband, Travis, and they have a 2-year-old daughter. Her husband also works in the construction industry as an electrician. By default, they are raising their daughter to have appreciation towards the STEAM fields. When they are not engaged with work, house projects, or side jobs they enjoy walks, riding bikes (Alexis is learning to also ride a dirt bike), taking local trips to St. George, and spending time with extended family. Alexis is also training for an upcoming Ragnar race in Zion National Park and the Bike MS ride in Logan, Utah. She is happy to be in Utah and a part of the Mortenson and CREW organizations.
